4.
How did you approach the composition of the music for the Tomb
Raider games
We have drafts
of the storyline and usually some design sketches, but my main
ideas came from early builds of the levels where I would roam
around and get a feel for what it was about.
5. Which piece of music for the series
do you feel is your own masterpiece, or are most pleased with?
My personal
preference is the theme to Angel of Darkness. The emotion of the
music was beautifully translated by the conductor and the
orchestra.
6. What is your favorite score from all
of the Tomb Raider games and why?
The theme tune
from Tomb Raider 1 is fantastic and set the standard for many
years to come. It's still as fresh today as it was back then.
7. The music
was always a key part of the games. How did it feel to be an
integral part of such a famous series?
Stressful, yet VERY exciting. There's a lot of pressure when
trying to write new compositions, for a tried and tested series,
without ruining the magic or moving too far from the original
score.
8. Both Tomb
Raider’s four and five had an immense collection of music to
accompany them,
how long does it normally take you to write your music? Did
you find it a challenge to produce the amount of tracks for them
as you did?
How
long it will take to write a piece of music is very hard to
predict. Often it can take forever, sometimes in the blink of an
eye. It depends on your current mood. It was definitely a
challenge to produce the music though, mainly because of the
scale of the project, but there were always enough visuals and
references, not forgetting internal feedback, to be able to get
it done in a reasonable timescale and to a standard known to
Tomb Raider.
